The active phase in cobalt-based Fischer-Tropsch synthesis

نویسندگان

چکیده

Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) is an industrial catalytic process that converts a mixture of CO and hydrogen into long-chain hydrocarbons. These products are used as clean transportation fuels chemical building blocks. The solid catalysts in the complex multi-component systems. Therefore, unambiguously determining catalytically active phase under reaction conditions remains challenging thus topic debate. cobalt-based FTS, including pathways it catalyzes, has been academic interest for many years. It provides direct ways to control output process. delineation between inactive often unclear, different phases (i.e., cobalt oxide, carbide, metal) have behavior. This review focuses on FTS materials, with special focus industrially applied cobalt/TiO2 system. various reviewed discussed respect most recent literature.

A review of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis on the cobalt based catalysts

Fischer-Tropsch synthesis is a promising route for production of light olefins via CO hydrogenation over transition metals. Co is one of the most active metals for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. Some different variables such as preparation parameters and operational factors can strongly affect the selectivity of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis toward the special products. In the case of preparat...

Mechanism of Cobalt-Catalyzed CO Hydrogenation: 2. Fischer–Tropsch Synthesis

Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis is one of the most complex catalyzed chemical reactions in which the chain-growth mechanism that leads to formation of long-chain hydrocarbons is not well understood yet. The present work provides deeper insight into the relation between the kinetics of the FT reaction on a silica-supported cobalt catalyst and the composition of the surface adsorbed layer. Cofeedi...

Fischer Tropsch Synthesis: A Comparison of Iron and Cobalt Catalysts

Following WW II, it appeared that there would be a severe shortage of crude oil so that U.S. organizations initiated work on Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS). Over a ten year period, the U.S. Bureau of Mines was budgeted $85 million for work on direct and indirect coal liquefaction. These funds would represent more than a billion dollars in today’s marketplace. A large (75 bbl/day) FTS pilot pla...

Design, synthesis, and use of cobalt-based Fischer-Tropsch synthesis catalysts

Catalyst productivity and selectivity to C5+ hydrocarbons are critical design criteria in the choice of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FTS) catalysts and reactors. Cobalt-based catalysts appear to provide the best compromise between performance and cost for the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO/H2 mixtures. Optimum catalysts with high cobalt concentration and site density can be prepared by control...
